Rebar Machine Sales and Service is pleased to introduce a truly unique tool that can literally change the way that rebar is shaken out.

This tool is known as the RMS Bar-Prep.

While many of today's rebar fabrication shops have progressed in areas that include the addition of automated shearlines; new high capacity guillotine shears, automated tie and stirrup benders and computers, there has been one job in the shop that has literally remained the same for decades. This job is quite simply...shaking out the rebar.

Not only is the job of shaking out an expensive and tedious job, it is one that can present a hazard to the individual attempting to do it. Many of you, on hiring new and unskilled workers, simply assign them to the job that requires the least amount of skill...the shakeout table.

Unfortunately, the shakeout table is where many of your accidents and claims can occur. Shaking out rebar can cause fatigue, back injuries, pulled or strained muscles, cuts and abrasions and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

This results in lower productivity, a higher employee turnover and can cost you, the fabricator, a considerable amount of money in terms of Workman's Compensation and increased insurance claims.

Did you know that in some states the cost of Workman's Compensation Insurance is approaching 40 to 50 percent of each wage earner's dollar?

Although the art of shaking out rebar may never be completely automated, the RMS Bar-Prep can reduce the labor that is required and it can reduce the risk of injuries associated with shaking out.

As a matter of fact, actual tests performed at a well known rebar fabrication shop have shown that a typical automatic shearline utilizing the Bar-Prep increased productivity by as much as 20 to 30 percent with no additional labor.

Shorter shakeout times, increased bar loads and less operator fatigue equal more shearline output.

  • The Bar-Prep can be adapted to most existing shearline preload tables, or ordered from RMS with a new preload table.
  • The Bar-Prep can also be adapted to many types of Bender Tables.
  • The Bar-Prep is equally suited for epoxy bar, as well as black bar.
  • The Bar-Prep is built by RMS to the same high standards as all RMS equipment and designed for years of trouble free performance.
  • Factory installation is available.
  • Reasonably priced; the Bar-Prep may help to reduce insurance premiums.

Labor Saving Example of the RMS Bar-Prep

Although the RMS Bar-Prep does not completely eliminate the labor required to shakeout rebar, it can reduce the average shakeout times, by as much as 30%* (or more), as compared with conventional shakeout times.

The graph below depicts an example of various rates of increased productivity and the annual gross increase of sales (in thousands of dollars), using .03 cents per pound as an example:

* Based on actual time studies comparing conventional shakeout times with shakeout times utilizing the RMS Bar-Prep. A variety of bar sizes and bundle sizes (and bundle conditions) were used. No additional labor was required. Depending on bundle conditions, type of shearline preload table, condition of preload, etc, results may vary from shop to shop. In many cases only a single operator was required.
