CAL-CUT (Calculate Cut) is an innovative built-in software program that offers "Real Time" Scrap and Remnant Reduction and control, while giving the Shearline Operator the ability to control both Bin Locations and Open Bundles.
Unlike conventional Optimizing Programs that can restrict the general operation of the Shearline and create an abundance of Open Bundles, the CAL-CUT program is designed to simply Optimize the items that are programmed on the CUT LIST Screen (up to eight items at a time).
The Shearline Operator maintains control of the bin in to which each sheared item will be dumped, plus he maintains control over the number of Open Bundles and when they can be closed.
The result is reduced scrap and remnants, while maintaining a high level of productivity.

CAL-CUT is simple to use:
- Prior to commencing a Shear Run, the Operator inputs the type of shear that he is using, e.g. the RMS 611, 311 or another type. The system automatically knows the shearing capacity, or he can assign a shear capacity, depending on the shear that he is using.
- He also inputs his stock length, e.g. 60 feet.
- As he sets up his CUT LIST screen, he simply selects the items (l through 8) that he would like to optimize. By pressing the CAL-CUT key, the system will instantly display the NUMBER OF BARS TO SHAKE OUT AND THE NUMBER OF CUTS to make per item. The amount of scrap (or remnant) that will be generated is also displayed.
- The operator may choose to explore another combination, or add or delete items to be included in the "mix".
- The Program will attempt to use the maximum number of bars per load, depending on the shear capacity.
- The operator chooses the bin location for each item and continues to operate the Shearline in a typical manner.
- This sequence takes seconds and can save him substantial time and effort in attempting to manually compute cuts and reduce scrap.
- CAL-CUT is currently available on all new RMS Micro Shearline Controls and can be adapted to existing Shearline Controls, beginning with the serial number "99".

The Shearing Capacity Chart stores the Bar Capacity for both RMS Guillotine Shears, as well as conventional shears. Once a shear capacity is selected, the program will default to that respective capacity, until modified. |

RUN SCREEN is where the operator inputs his items (cutting lengths)
and the bin location where each will be dumped. The items marked with an * are those the Operator wishes to Optimize. CAL-CUT button is pressed, the screen will display the "BARS" (number to shake out); the "CUTS" (number of cuts per line item) and the SCRAP or REMNANT that will be generated. The QTY (total number of bars per item) will automatically reflect the correct balance of that item, following each cut. |
